Plot: Lawrence Talbot (Javier Bardem) returns to his family's estate to attend his brother's funeral. When he arrives, he has an uneasy reunion with his father John (Ian McShane) and meets his dead brother's fiancee, Gwen (Gemma Arterton). Lawrence goes to a local pub and hears the patrons discussing how his brother was viciously attacked by a some sort of monster. One of the villagers recalls a similar death decades earlier that the gypsies attributed to a werewolf. Lawrence knows they are talking about his mother's death and leaves the pub. Lawrence walks through a local gypsy encampment just outside of town when he is suddenly attacked and bitten by a werewolf. In the camp, his wounds are patched up by a gypsy named Maleva (Anjelica Huston). Maleva tells Lawrence that he will transform into a wolf on the next full moon.
Lawrence's wounds heal unnaturally quickly. His father John ominously shows Lawrence a set of silver bullets. Colonel Montford (Woody Harrelson) arrives to town to capture the werewolf to add to his collection of trophies. Montford's searches the gypsy camp for clues, but they refuse to speak to him. Lawrence asks Gwen to live town as he fears for her safety. Lawrence follows his father to his mother's crypt, where John locks himself inside. Lawrence transforms into a werewolf and runs off into the woods where he kills some hunters who work with Montford.
In the morning, Montford and his hunting party have tracked Lawrence back to the grounds of his family's estate. They capture him and hold him in the town jail, waiting for the next full moon. Gwen and John visit Lawrence at the jail. John tells him he is working on getting him freed before leaving. Gwen stays longer and kisses Lawrence through the cell bars before she leaves.
On the next full moon, Lawrence transforms into a werewolf in front of Montford and his team. They try to cut his head off as a trophy, but Lawrence breaks free from his restraints and escapes the jail. He goes on a rampage through the town, killing anything he sees. He finally makes his way to his mother's crypt. Lawrence breaks the door off and discovers his father is also a werewolf. They begin to fight just before dawn. When the sun rises, they both turn back to their normal human selves. Lawrence stabs his father in the chest with a knife. As John is dying, he apologizes for killing Lawrence's mother. Gwen shows up at the estate and tells Lawrence that she can't leave town because she loves him. Lawrence asks her to stay with him at the estate, but that she must keep him locked in his mother's crypt every night.

REVIEWS
"The Wolfman, hokey and uneven though it is, has the kind of authentic emotional hook that too many horror movies today don't have." - Henry Stewart, Chicago Sun-Times
"The update of the famous movie monster successfully recaptures the old school feel of classic monster movies thanks to solid direction and acting." - Charles Triano, Los Angeles Times
"The film is poorly paced and is plagued by a lack of focus throughout its running time. There are definitely some cool scenes, but they don't connect well to the structure of the plot." - Jon Farrell, Hollywood Reporter
Rated R for graphic violence, grisly images and sexual content
